Join me in supporting Underdog Animal Rescue and Rehab this #GivingTuesday, a global day of generosity. Donations will help us reduce the stray animal population while supporting Native American families on the Navajo Nation.

There are an estimated 250,000 stray dogs roaming the Navajo Nation and unless rescued, the life expectancy of these stray pups is just two years due to disease, lack of resources, and predators. This overwhelming stray population stems from the issue that most dogs on the reservation are unaltered, including the owned dogs. Recognizing the need, Underdog plans to expand its support and host a spay and neuter clinic each month in 2022!

Why are so many dogs unaltered? Frankly, many Native Americans cannot afford these simple surgeries. Roughly one-third of the population lives without running water or electricity and only one in six own a working vehicle. There are only two veterinarians available to serve the entire Navajo Nation (an area the size of West Virginia) and these clinics are often booked out for months. So even when money is not an issue there is very minimal access to veterinary services like spay and neuter, making animal care that much more difficult. Underdog and its supporters are here to help!

Underdog contracts out a mobile clinic to go directly to remote communities on the Navajo Nation and provide free spay and neuter surgeries and other necessary medical care to owned animals. They bring with them thousands of pounds of pet food donations and other requested items including hygiene kits, winter coats, backpacks, shoes, and other supplies for children. They invite, educate, and empower community members to take an active role at their clinics, and they host a dinner for community leaders at each clinic to learn ways to best support the Navajo Nation. At the end of each clinic, Underdog rescues unwanted stray dogs and brings them back to their home facility and foster network, getting these animals the care they need and readying them for adoption into new, loving homes. If you ask an adopter, they’ll tell you that these rescued pups seem especially grateful and loyal for the role you’ve played in giving them a second chance at life!

If you are able, I am respectfully asking for your donation so we can help Underdog achieve its goals and host these important clinics on the Navajo Nation throughout 2022. Help us create happier, healthier communities and support our neighbors in need, both animals and humans alike!
